Landed costs

The price on a supplier invoice is rarely the whole story. Freight, customs duty, insurance and handling all add to what a product really cost you to get onto your shelf. Landed costs spread those extra charges across the goods they relate to, so your unit cost β€” and therefore your margins, valuation and cost of goods sold β€” reflect the true figure.

Each landed cost with its reference, allocation method, total and status.

Step by step

  1. Go to Landed Costs and select Create.
  2. Give it a Reference and enter the Total Cost β€” the whole extra charge to spread (e.g. a freight bill).
  3. Choose an Allocation method (see below).
  4. Add the Items the charge applies to. For each, pick the Product, its Quantity, and its Line value (the basis used for value/quantity splits).
  5. Save it as a Draft and review the split.
  6. When it's right, Post it. The allocated cost is added to each item's unit cost.

How the charge is split

The allocation method decides how the total is divided across the items:

MethodThe charge is split in proportion to…
ValueEach item's line value (more expensive goods absorb more)
QuantityThe number of units (each unit takes an equal share)
WeightEach item's weight (heavier goods absorb more freight)
ManualAmounts you type in yourself per item

Each item's share is (its basis Γ· total basis) Γ— total cost, then divided by its quantity to give the extra cost per unit.

Draft vs posted

StatusMeaning
DraftWorked out and reviewable, but unit costs are unchanged
PostedApplied β€” the allocated amount is added to each item's cost

Posting changes your costs

Posting raises the unit cost of the affected stock (and any linked lots), which flows into valuation and cost of goods sold. Review the draft first; posting is a deliberate, separately-permissioned step.

Mobile workflow

Authorized users can review landed-cost references, allocation methods, totals and statuses in More β†’ Inventory Pro. Users with posting authority can post a draft after confirming the irreversible inventory allocation.
