Using the Kitchen Display β
The Kitchen Display System (KDS) puts every order on a screen in the kitchen the moment it's rung up β no printed chits, no lost dockets. Cooks move each ticket across three columns as they work, then bump it when it's done.
This article is for the people working the line. To set the screens up, see Setting up kitchen stations.
π’ For everyone
The KDS runs as its own full-screen app on a kitchen tablet or monitor. You don't sign in with a username β a manager pairs the display once (see below) and it stays connected.

The board at a glance β
The board is three columns. An order ticket starts in the left column and moves right as the kitchen works it:
| Column | Also called | Means |
|---|---|---|
| 1. New / Inbound | Queue | Just arrived β not started yet |
| 2. Production | Prep | Being cooked/made now |
| 3. Ready / Pass | Ready | Done, waiting to be served or handed off |
The top bar shows the venue and station name, a live Active count (tickets still on the board), a Bumps count (finished today), a β Live connection light, and a clock.
Reading a ticket β
Each ticket card shows:
- Order ID β the order/receipt number, big and bold.
- An order-type badge β Dine-In, Takeout, Delivery or Web App.
- The items with quantities, and any modifiers underneath (e.g. no onions, extra cheese).
- A Table label at the bottom, for dine-in orders.
A ticket in the Ready column dims and strikes through its items, so the pass can tell at a glance what's already plated.
Moving an order through β
- A new order lands in New / Inbound. Tap Accept & Prep β to start it β it slides to Production.
- When the food is up, tap Complete β β it moves to Ready / Pass.
- When it's handed to the server or customer, tap BUMP CLEAR β β the ticket leaves the board and the Bumps counter ticks up.
You can also drag a card between columns instead of tapping the buttons.
Sent something forward too soon? β
Every ticket in Production and Ready has a β button that sends it back one column (from Ready to Production, or Production to New). Use it if you bumped ahead of yourself.
Auto-advance
A manager can set timers on a station so overdue tickets step forward on their own β New β Production, and Production β Ready. Bumping (clearing) is always manual, so nothing leaves the board until a person says it's served.
Stations & what each screen shows β
A screen is paired to a station. What it shows depends on how it was set up:
- A station linked to a branch shows only that branch's orders.
- A station left unlinked (tenant-wide) shows every restaurant order across the business β handy for a single central kitchen.
Multiple screens can share the same station and stay in sync β bump a ticket on one and it clears on all of them instantly.
Staying connected β
The β Live badge in the top bar is your health check. If it reads β Connectingβ¦, the screen has briefly lost its link β it reconnects on its own, and you can tap βΊ Refresh to reload the current orders. Because it's a kitchen device, Sign Out asks for confirmation first so a stray tap can't unpair the screen mid-service.
